Hagiang Loop – the loop of happiness

After days of being lost in Hanoi, I decided to travel to Ha Giang to experience a new area, meet new people, and, most importantly, witness the magnificence of the northwestern mountains.

This was a trip with the sole purpose of being a holiday before Lunar New Year; I had no other arrangements as I don’t like planning, so I chose a business that could support me in that. Hagiang Loop Legends – where the fun is developed, is a newly established guesthouse run by a young, educated and beautiful girl who wants to take guests on a real and comprehensive tour of Ha Giang. When I texted to inquire about the service, I felt excited about this friend; the intimacy and honesty she showed in the conversation helped me make a choice that met my needs compared to other tours.

The vacation was light, with new friends from many various nations; as part of the voyage to discover new things, I was looking forward to the following backpacking days. That’s correct, we’ll ride a motorcycle and soak up the atmosphere here. The season we go is rather cold, and the higher we go, the thinner and colder the air becomes. Additionally, the road will be very winding and sometimes dangerous, so the best option is to have a rider who is familiar with and understands the route. Ha Giang is famed for its M-shaped roads or loops around the highlands, which allow us to appreciate the spectacular panorama of the Northwest mountains and woods, truly making us feel exhilarated by their beauty.

On a three-day, two-night trip, you can explore Ha Giang from the northernmost point of the country to famous sites such as Khau Lan waterfall or the historic Vuong family mansion. You can also visit Lo Lo Chai village, near Lung Cu flagpole. There, you can enjoy the strong aroma of corn wine with a fragrant gas hot pot and the warmth of a campfire in a stilt house.

Because the first day’s journey is lengthy and twisting, you may feel exhausted and unaccustomed to the pace. Additionally, the temperature will progressively drop, making it easy for you to fall asleep in the motor.

On the second day, the weather will be sunny and the fog will gradually dissipate, and the path will be more pleasant with plenty of picturesque scenery to take in. We will stroll over 4 km of white cliffs along this route, or we can ascend the death cliff to snap lifelong pictures. When I reached the top of the rock, I hurried down because I had forgotten about the death cliff. The trip would explore a deep sinkhole in the forest, which was both fascinating and quite dangerous to go down, or a beautiful waterfall that few people knew about. After a long day of traveling, we had a delicious home-cooked dinner to close the second night in H’mong Village Meo Vac, and we sang karaoke with all the common emotions.

Should I not travel alone?

The last day was also the longest and dustiest day because the road was still under construction and more importantly, a mine explosion could block the road at any time. It sounds scary, but it was only for safety reasons and to wait for the bulldozers to finish so that everyone could continue as usual. The small video below records my journey to explore Ha Giang, hope you will like it.

I had a great time on this trip; spending five days with everyone here made me feel like family and international friends as we all enjoyed those humorous and lovely moments while steeped in Vietnamese culture.

Indeed, without the experienced and witty riders who are incredibly respectful of their patrons and willing to roll up their sleeves to snap our photos, the trip would be nothing. Furthermore, the passionate, charming, and very hospitable host always paid attention to the trip – Ms Linh with Ha Giang Loop Legends.

As we embark on our first journey of 2025, I hope the days ahead will be happier and more hopeful. Thanks for supporting me all the time.
